Internet Access

Our need for bigger, better and faster Internet connections continues to grow exponentially. Over the years, the way we use internet access has changed drastically. The need for speed has changed the options available to businesses in terms of how and how fast we can connect to the Internet.

While technology changes at a rapid pace, so do Internet connections. The connection speeds listed below represent a snapshot of general average to maximum speeds. This is no doubt will change over time and Internet connection speeds also vary between Internet Service Providers (ISP).

StoneNet Services consultants have extensive experience in helping customers select the appropriate internet access for their business and their budget. We represent close to 100 Internet Service Providers both nationally and globally.

Best Effort Fiber (Fios, ABF)

In order to compete with the cable companies, ILEC’s (AT&T, Verizon, Frontier, etc.) have introduced inexpensive lightning-fast internet services to both residential and business customers. These products offer high bandwidth speeds, up to 1Gbps, at cable prices. For many business with non-critical application and requirement for a backup circuit, this is a very good solution. The only downside with the product is that it is a shared service between the central office and the customer, thus a best effort to reach “up to” the bandwidth offered. There are no promises as to the actual speeds the customer will achieve.

Cable

Through the use of a cable modem you can have a broadband Internet connection that is designed to operate over cable TV lines. Cable Internet works by using TV channel space for data transmission, with certain channels used for downstream transmission, and other channels for upstream transmission. Because the coaxial cable used by cable TV provides much greater bandwidth than telephone lines, a cable modem can be used to achieve extremely fast access. Cable speeds range from 5Mbps to 1Gbps.

Satellite

Satellite internet services have become a mainstream alternative to other types of internet delivery platforms. They are quickly installed anywhere in the world and are especially beneficial in rural or hard to reach areas. These services are the same that are used on aircraft to provide internet access to passengers. Through advances in satellite technologies, problems with reliability and latency have been eliminated. Bandwidth speeds are now up to 100Mbps, which is quite respectable for most business needs. This is a very cost effective and inexpensive solution.

Mobile 5G

5G is the next generation of wireless network technology, designed to expand the scope of mobile technology beyond the capabilities of LTE. With 5G, there is exponentially faster download and upload speeds. Latency, or the time it takes devices to communicate with wireless networks, will also drastically decrease. It will be transformative, fueling innovation across every industry and every aspect of our lives. Over time, 5G technology will change the way we live, work, and play—for good.

Fixed Wireless Internet Connections

Fixed Wireless Internet, or wireless broadband is one of the newest Internet connection types. Instead of using telephone or cable networks for your Internet connection, you use radio frequency bands broadcast from a tower to a dish at your home or office. These connections are typically found in rural or remote locations.

Fiber Ethernet

Ethernet via Fiber is the technology of choice to deliver high bandwidth internet access for businesses around the world. It works on the same technology used for the company’s LAN network and can deliver speeds up to 100 Gbps. Ethernet access is fast, it’s reliable and it’s inexpensive. StoneNet Services delivers Ethernet internet access through a wide selection of carriers.
